FREE Music Promotion E-Book from CD Baby to Indie Musicians

Do you think you can make a fortune from CD Baby?

It is important to get help with music promotion from as many trusted sources as possible when you are building a music career and there is perhaps no greater teacher of how successful you can be, than CD Baby owner Derek Sivers.

Derek is an all around helpful guy and easily accessible, he doesn’t sit in some armchair distant from his fans or other business partners, he is more willing to help indie artists than many people far less successful than him.  Which brings me to a great point.

CD Baby is a powerful tool for indie musicians in so many ways beyond music promotion that I won’t list them here, but you simply can not deny the simplicity of that music distribution engine.  Where would independent music be today if there were no CD Baby?

Want to get songs listed on iTunes – use CD Baby.  Cut out the complications in one easy step.  So Derek has provided an 71 page E-Book with some great advice and useful tips for Musicians, promoters, artists, and managers in the music industry.

But before you read consider this.

Often times in learning new information, the better goal instead of trying to grasp and comprehend it all in one sitting is to interpret it and draw some strong conclusions that you can use to do one of these three things:

  • Re-affirm existing strategies / plans / outcomes
  • Take new / better actions towards your goals
  • Realize that you are totally going the wrong way about reaching your goal

Here is a quote from the 71 page FREE Music Promotion E-Book from Derek Sivers.

“Whatever scares you, go do it.” <– one of my favorite slogans
If something scares you in an excited way, (something that *gives* you energy) – that’s a good sign.

BUT IF SOMETHING IS MAKING YOU MISERABLE AND DRAINING YOUR ENERGY,
PLEASE STOP.
Life is telling you that is not the path for you.

QUICK EXAMPLE: Biggest mistake I ever made in my life:
My band was doing well. A well-meaning lawyer that I trusted told me that I should start a record
label. “Find and sign 3 other artists. Do for them what you did for your band. Then sell the whole
label for a million bucks!!”

I walked out of his office with slumped shoulders, miserable, saying, “yeah… I guess he’s right…”
With a long face, I plopped in a chair back home and thought, “Oh man… do I really have to do
this?” But because I trusted him, I spent 2 years of my life trying!

It wasn’t what came natural to me, and so of course it was a failure, AND since I had spent so much
time on it, the thing that I WAS good at (making music) was being ignored!!

I wish I would have paid attention to my lack of enthusiasm and stuck with the things that excited
me. Please don’t make the same mistake. If anything I’m talking about here makes you tired instead of wired, just don’t do it!
Stick with what excites you. That’s where you’ll find your success.

If you don’t learn anything else, that is the most powerful lesson to be learned in all of life, forget about the music.  It is useless and self-degrading to do things that you can not care about consistently, passionately, and creatively…on a consistent basis.  If you feel that your plan, your strategy, or the work it takes to promote yourself to the next level is too much; then this is not the business for you.

The man earning $100,000 a year or more from music does not make the same excuses as the man earning $10,000 a year from music.
