Music Industry School – Songwriting 101 TRAINING
I wanted to outline the basic fundamentals of writing a high quality song. The major takeaway point is that you can achieve a quality song if you do these two things.
- Have a set of ideas, tools that you can easily draw from (knowing song types, knowing styles, knowing how to start with a powerful concept)
- Hold yourself to a high standard, and get feedback/critique.
If you just do those two things you will be leaps and bounds ahead of most artists. Don’t think that just because you have good music or a good looking CD cover, that it will save the day. It’s just not true.
Songwriting may seem boring and tedious, but it’s necessary. And if all else fails, at least now you know to take some time to think about your songs could be better… and that might mean, HIRING or FIRING a songwriter. Standards are high now days.
Consumers aren’t buying music because they have to… They have to buy your song because they want to, because they need to, because they want to support you. So write a good song. This covers the basics, but in later videos you WILL see how I was able to put these tips into action – from start to finish!
What are your thoughts on the video, and what other questions might you have?
