Should I Give $1500 or $2,000

Okay…. not long after I posted up the blog about getting $2,000 in 24 hours I got some emails questioning my stupidity. First I thought that giving away $2,000 was a good idea – I mean the only thing I’m going to really do with it is buy a new mic or a new pair of speakers. I am not the shopping type plus I know how some artists could use that cash to START or FINISH their project, or something. Then of course some people will just want to blow it.

But is that a crime? Is it really too much money? I know most “underground” “indie” contests give away $500 and $600 at most, the rest is all garbage prizes you’ll probably never use…and some studio time in a trailer. But seems that I should ask you what you think. Let me know, just post a comment

So is $2000 too much or should I stick with $1500? I will read ALL your comments. Just leave me a quick comment. I will make the final decision and send out the email to everyone on the VIP list.

Crisys, you can get A&R contact info from google, but you have to know how to get their attention ANd/OR how to give them what they’re looking for. But we’ll talk about that ;)

$1500 would be awesome – heck – i’d do it for $50. I like to play, especially when there’s a chance to record/get industry feedback, and a chance to play at a nice place.

    Hey guys,
I think it would be great if you gave $2,000 honestly because as everyone knows with bands or singers, you don’t make a lot of money until you get signed. That is a lot and it would help a LOT with my career considering I have 4 backup dancers!

If it was a song I made I would say 2000 or more, thats only 200 cd sells and you could do that in a weekand!!!!

  • The Dar Said:

I think that $2,000 would be great. $1,500 is great too. I can’t tell you how many shows I have played for free or for beer, etc… In fact, I just spent 5-weeks touring Europe and hardly made any money. I don’t do this for the money. I do it for the love of music and because I love performing for people. On stage is where I belong and if someone is going to pay me for something that I absolutely love doing, then great.

Any contribution is greatly appreciated by an artist. If you’re willing to contribute even $20 it’s still awesome. I think it’s more about the exposure to 5,000 people than the money to be frank. But in any event, I hope you find what you’re looking for, thanks for taking time to email me.

Good feedback so far. I am reading everything and still thinking about it. Big decisions!!! Okay so far, I think it seems that $2k would be a good amount. I know it isn’t a huge heap of money, I just want to make sure that it would actually help someone. For NY – that’s like rent ($1500) + $500 for bills.

To Be Totally Honest With You Howard Rather It Be 1500 Or Nothing At All. It’s A Great Opportunity And A Chance Of A Life Time. I Would Do Your Show For Free And Any Artis Who Has The Opportunity To Showcase The Gift God Has Blessed Them With Should’nt Be Picky At All Cause Beggers Cant Be Choosy.

well as a musician, id say 2000 is an awesome deal….but its really your choice. i know that nobody in their right mind would turn down that kinda money…it sounds like an awesome deal to me. but like i said thats coming from a broke musicians standpoint.

  • kreme Said:

I think 2000 is better cause I can buy tons and tons of Krispy Kreme doughnuts while I work on my tracks!

I say if you have it to give, GIVE IT ALL!! Because I have never met a really good artist who would just blow the money on something like shoes. I’ll tell you right now how I would spend it:
200.00 – Car transmission fluid change & tune up (tour prep)
218.00- 5,000 Full color two sided fliers (promotion for upcoming gigs)
1,200- Cd Duplication Package thet includes shirts, stickers & posters (to sell and help pay for food & gas on the road)
100.00- Replace and/or fix any broken cords, fix Audix Om 5 Mic
    100.oo- Gas Card
100.00- 2 Fog Machines and Fog Juice
The rest would probably be eaten up with tax and dollar burgers and tacos from fast food joints on the road.
Im not kidding this is really how I would spend the money.

  • Chazz Said:

Hey long as it’s not a “pay-to-play” the amount is up to you long as the stage is there to get ‘em bouncin!

we could really use that $2,000 it would be used from makein our studio better from our recordin n to have our song mixed and mastered in the states, we make new songs every day and are tryin to make a new for our selves in the music busyness wether its from the lyrics or the beats we make the $2,000 would help us very much

  • Redclaee Said:

I think you should do the 2000 man that will be fat. So I can put some bread in my pocket.

  • Michael Matney Said:

It doesn’t matter to me how much you give away. I downloaded the software and can’t use it because i can’t get a Serial number to activate it. So anything you could do to correct this would be appreciated greatly

  • Ken Said:

Any amount would be great i would be happy with the 1,500 to get me started
