WARNING — Official Disclaimer – Music Industry Exposed

Howard Britt, (aka – me, I) am the owner of Music Industry School and together we are a team. Howard Britt is the person who puts the energy the work ethic and the thought process into how this entire enterprise is going to go down. This is not a blog, this is not a quick fix, this is not a letter, it’s not just software, its not just an idea, this is real life – and a real life vehicle that is designed to help people reach their music goals. Before we continue our long life working relationship and friendship it is important to note why this exists, why I’m here, and why I may say some things that would seem offensive to some and may at first glance appear to be unethical. It is important to do this now rather than later, and it does matter to me that we have an understand so I heavily advise you to read this first before you read anything else…

I want to give everyone a solid and confident disclaimer before they get involved with this system, because I want to avoid hearing as many complaints as I possibly can. Please take into consideration that this is a work in progress and something I take extremely serious, and for the most part everything here will be informal, laid back, but still with professional execution.

I like to ask questions because Anthony Robbins (Tony Robbins) has inspired me to understand that questions are the fastest way to get answers and formulate ideas. So let’s me kind of preface the logic and idealogy behind this whole thing by asking some questions:

  • When you look at the culture of [today], you understand that we live in an “always-on” camera-ready lifestyle whether we like it or not. And when you take into the consideration that most of the internet is now being popularized by USG (user generated content) it is easy to conclude that we’re gaining more power as individuals while taking it away from each other by the minute. Music is being created cheaper, faster, and easier than ever before by practically anyone who thinks their life purpose is to be a superstar which in turn increases the amount of clutter in the marketplace from these individuals who also make mediocre attempts to sell that same music to the general public. The general public then has to decide whether to accept/ignore the pitch, and then decide whether to spend their hard earned (aka limited) money on the new Britney Spears album or on the new Brustin Timber ocean album on CD Baby.

It is of my opinion (professional & personal) that at least 90-95% percent of music released by indie artists, that is intended to be in major commercial genres, is not worth listening to, not marketed correctly, and does not meet the demands of the consumer market…whatever those demands may be at the time and as they may change overtime.

With the above in mind, despite label shutdowns and mergers, artists being shelved, artist rosters being filled to capacity; its shocking that emerging artists still continue to strive for record deals and continue to push their products to markets and believe in a once successful profit, success, and fame building business model that consistently proves itself to be dead.

How can Music Industry School contribute to helping artists reverse the mundane artistry and complacent consumer market while helping newcomer and current music artists achieve their goals to a large degree and avoid getting stuck in the rut of 100% dependency on the record label model?

My answer and proposal to you the potential student/peer of Music Industry School, and proposal to myself as a founder is somewhat simple:

My job and the purpose of doing anything at all, if real change in the quality of music/artists is to ever change, is to take the frightening and somewhat uncomfortable risks associated with being 100% honest and gracefully exposing the naked, raw, uncut, real-life scenarios (even when they sometimes involve 3rd parties), and analyze multiple avenues that can be and are currently being used as “formulas” that produce chart-topping, Grammy award winning artists who continue to sustain relevancy, royalties, tours, album releases, and long undying careers year after year; that furthermore keep up with all the current trends that threaten otherwise unprepared artists.

AKA – The real heart and soul of Music Industry School is in its honesty is in the fact that it is intended to allow artists a kind of “see-through” looking glass to see what happens, what works, what doesn’t work, what’s working now, what’s not working now…and that involves me taking a lot of risk to expose things that normally would not be exposed or would be kept under the rug. I am not here to waste my time or yours and I am not here to embarrass anyone, to start wars, to start dramatic episodes, but it is with the full 100% intent that everything I say and do (if it’s placed on this site, or included in materials) is solely for the purpose of education, and this education – is available to anyone who understand this and the terms required to participating.

Some information is free, some information is not. Some statements are forward statements and some are not. Everything I do here is because I believe in it and I honestly believe it to be helpful.
